I cannot believe our little ham is already one! Where has time gone?! I had so much fun planning everything for his special day. The morning of his birthday I had my parents & siblings over for brunch and presents. I DIY’d picnic tables using these IKEA tabletops which I set up in my living room for extra seating. They worked great and afterward, I packed them up and used them as coloring tables for his party. We rented out a local activity center for his party, which was the perfect venue for our large families. This was our second time renting this space and it was just as fantastic the second time around! We had two bouncy houses, coloring tables, parachutes, roller coaster cars, scooters, ring tosses, and basketballs available for all the kids in the gym and everyone had an absolute blast! Most importantly, Luca had the time of his life. He always get so excited whenever he sees his cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was screaming the entire time out of pure joy which was the best feeling for this mama! Scroll down for all party details & links.
Party Details
The backdrops were the first thing we made for his birthday back in October because yes, I started planning his party 6 months in advance. We made them out of foam board and painted them using leftover paint we had from our bathroom remodel. I ordered the wood letters from Craftcuts to spell out “one year of Luca” and printed all the photos for his collage on mpix. The vinyl decal on the larger board is from Etsy. I’m so glad I ordered it in blue because it popped off the backdrop perfectly.
Also, when it comes to balloon garlands ya’ll I’M HER. Who doesn’t love excessive and unnecessary balloons to add flair to any party?! These balloons were purchased from my favorite local MN vendor, GoGo Glam Co. I’ve ordered from them a few times now and love that their kits come with detailed instructions so you can achieve a more professional-installation look. I also love that their store is less than 10 mins from my house so I can pick up my balloons instead of having them shipped when I’m in a time crunch.
Kids Table
I was obsessed with the kid-sized chiavari chairs that that came with the tables I rented! For some fun centerpieces, I filled candy jars (similar ones linked here) with blue and white sand and layered crushed crystals on top. Then, I stuck different space themed cupcake toppers in them. The pom sticks were an easy DIY using these tinsel poms glued to bamboo skewers. I love how they turned out and plan to reuse them for other parties!
Dessert & Food Table
We kept it simple and served our guests pizza with a variety of snacks and drinks. I made the custom water bottle labels on Canva and print them at home. It was such a simple but fun little project. I wanted a tablecloth that matched the party theme so I grabbed this fabric from Joann’s and had it cut to size for our food table.
The dessert table was the real star of the show. I had custom cookies made by an incredible local pastry artist I found on Facebook (sorry she doesn’t have a website I can link, but if anyone wants her contact you can message me!) and they turned out incredible! The 2-tiered rocket cake was truly what dreams are made of and was made by my sister Pang of Pangcakery Eats. No one could get over how beautiful it was!
Party Favor Bags
I found these party favor bags on Amazon that, by chance, matched my invitations perfectly! I loved that they came with matching stickers to seal the bags. We filled the party favor bags up with space themed bouncy balls, astronaut tattoos, astronaut bubble wands, milky way & starburst candy (to match the space theme!), and astronaut paratrooper toys. The kids had a blast using and abusing all of these in the gym area!
