Your living room is usually the place where you spend most of your waking hours when you’re at home, so you want it to be inviting. Light is very important in any room as it stimulates and motivates you, and puts you in a good mood. You don’t want to feel like you’re locked in a dungeon. Whether you’re chilling out alone, hanging with your friends or spending some quality family time, your living room needs a bright and cheery atmosphere. Here are some simple ways you can create this.
1. Light with white
One of the easiest ways to brighten up any room is to use white. The color white will reflect light around the room, better than mirrors or other shiny surfaces. Use white as the main wall color and for the ceiling as well, especially if it’s a particularly low ceiling. Go for some white furnishings, frames and backgrounds as well. You can add more colour later.
2. Lighting options
There are many lighting choices available. In addition to ceiling lights, consider also lighting up walls and furnishings. You can add a strip light above artwork, or sconces on the walls to draw attention to particularly attractive features. You might have lights already fitted in cabinets, or can install them later. Fit in a semi-flush hanging ceiling light. These can spread light nicely across the room. Update your bulbs to brighter white or daylight colours and go for LEDs rather than halogen or incandescent. These will last longer, so you’ll have a more durable and energy efficient light which will save you a lot of money.
3. Color schemes
The interior design colors trending in 2020 are neo mint, baby blue and pink and warm yellows. The light blues and greens will create a crispness which combines well with white to produce more a natural and calming atmosphere. Touches of black or navy to these will create a great contrast and add sophistication. Buy black frames for pictures, or add darker cushions to a light colored sofa for example. Decorate the place with black or colorful ornaments. You don’t want to leave the place too washed out.
4. Brighten up the floor
Choose rugs to break up dark wood floors and tiles. Go for patterned rugs with white or lighter colors in the design, these will add light but won’t stain easily. If you’re considering more of an upgrade, you could look into revamping the floor. If you are looking to buy a new property you could invest in real estate with the design of your choice. Consider looking into real estate agents such as William Pitt.
5. Add some life
Get a few plants to decorate the room. These will improve your mood and give the effect of being outside in the daylight. It’s nice to bring a bit of nature inside. You can get some spring flowers too such as daffodils, the most cheerful flowers of the year!
